Dear Annegret,

Thank you for your response. I am glad that you found the blog insightful.

We have built the 3C model internally at Evalueserve after our extensive experience in conducting various FTO studies. This model helps us in developing a good search foundation by clearly defining the search boundaries and framing the search strategies accordingly. The 3Cs stand for clarity, communication, and confirmation.

Clarity: by focusing on clarity, we try to identify the key features (core or non-core) of the product (or process) and hence define the research scope. This can be achieved by asking the right set of questions.

Communication: communication helps in defining the level of FTO search to be conducted (basic, expanded, or comprehensive FTO assessment). Commissioning of various FTO studies depends upon the R&D stage of the product. Therefore, communication and feedback helps in selecting the depth of the study and understanding the associated costs.

Confirmation: confirmation of the researchers understanding with the product owner is critical to kick start the process.

Please read Part 1 of our FTO blog. This blog explains how a searcher mixes the right skills and techniques to obtain optimum results and avoid FTO search pitfalls.

Comment on FTO search Part 1: Conducting a freedom to operate search – what experienced searchers do differently? by Annegret Reinhard https://www.evalueserve.com/blog/fto-search-conducting-a-freedom-to-operate-search-what-experienced-searchers-do-differently/#comment-3127 Mon, 13 May 2019 11:40:43 +0000 https://www.evalueserve.com/blog/#comment-3127 Dear Priyanka.
Thank you for sharing your experience! That was very interesting and insightful. I’d call myself a semi-experienced searcher and I am ever ready to learn. I have never heard of the 3Cs model in patent search. Would you mind to explain it a bit?

Hello Utkarsh,

Thank you for your candid response.
We have always been committed to impart the best knowledge to our employees which help them understand the fundamentals and terminologies related to IP. In fact, we have a best-in-class knowledge program – ICE (IPRD Centre of Excellence) – a 6 year curriculum that aims at creating highly skilled IPRD professionals by imparting them technical / domain, functional and leadership skills to become a successful IPRD professional.

These initial days at Evalueserve, will leave you with lots of learning – at times lots of fun but also overwhelming! So, soak in all the knowledge that you receive, read a lot and never hesitate to ask questions.

Wishing you all the best!

Best regards,
Priyal

All I can ask is for an advice for newbies like me in this field who want to explore more about patents and all other entities encapsulated in the IPRD division.
Thanks
